Description
FOBOS designs PTFE zebra guidewires for endoscopic procedures, catheter guidance, and minimally invasive access. These guidewires support controlled navigation in biliary, pancreatic, urinary, and other complex anatomical pathways.
Each guidewire combines a metal core with a PTFE outer layer. PTFE, or polytetrafluoroethylene, provides a smooth, low-friction surface. As a result, the outer layer helps the guidewire pass through compatible catheters and narrow or curved channels. In addition, the zebra pattern helps users observe advancement, rotation, and withdrawal during use.
FOBOS offers stainless steel and nickel-titanium alloy cores. Depending on the application, we can design the distal section for greater flexibility, while the proximal section provides support for pushing and torque control.

Stainless Steel or Nitinol Core?
The core material affects the guidewire’s support, flexibility, torque response, and kink resistance. Stainless steel usually provides stronger pushability and a more direct operating response. In contrast, nitinol offers greater flexibility, better kink resistance, and improved elastic recovery. Therefore, customers should consider these differences when selecting a core material for their application.
| Comparison | Stainless Steel Core | Nitinol Core |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Strong support and clear pushing feedback | Flexible support with smoother adaptation |
| Torque Response | Direct rotational response | Smooth rotational movement |
| Flexibility | Moderate | High |
| Kink Resistance | May deform after excessive bending | Better kink resistance and recovery |
| Shape Recovery | Usually no clear shape-memory effect | Superelasticity and shape-memory properties |
| Suitable Use | Pathways requiring pushability and direct feedback | Curved, narrow, or complex pathways |
PTFE Outer Layer for Smooth Navigation
The PTFE outer layer helps reduce surface friction between the guidewire and catheter. As a result, its smooth surface supports easier advancement and withdrawal. In addition, PTFE provides good chemical stability for compatible fluids and medical-device materials.
FOBOS offers several color combinations for the outer pattern. For example, customers can choose blue-and-white or yellow-and-blue zebra patterns. Alternatively, customers can discuss custom colors with our team to suit their requirements.
Custom Zebra Guidewire Options
FOBOS can customize the guidewire’s diameter, length, core material, distal-tip design, and flexible-tip section. In addition, customization options include radiopaque components, surface coating, color pattern, packaging, and labeling.
For example, we can develop straight, angled, curved, or other distal-tip structures for different catheter and endoscopic applications. We can also match the guidewire to the dimensions and performance requirements of the customer’s compatible device.
FOBOS Medical Device Manufacturing Capability
FOBOS focuses on medical guidewires and related polymer medical-device products. Throughout development and production, we pay close attention to material safety, clean manufacturing, and process control.
We can evaluate product materials and structures according to applicable ISO 10993 biocompatibility requirements. In addition, we manage quality under an ISO 13485:2016 medical-device quality management system. Production takes place in a Class 10,000 cleanroom to support the cleanliness and consistency requirements of medical guidewire manufacturing.
From product structure and material selection to sample development and production, FOBOS can support customized guidewire projects. To start a project, share your target application, compatible catheter, diameter, length, and core material. Also, include your tip design, color, and packaging requirements so that our team can review your customization needs.
